I was looking for a photographer pretty last minute for our family vacation  and am so happy I found Doug! He was so personable, genuine and laid-back from the very beginning. The fact that he’s a local was an added bonus because who better to photograph your family on the beach than someone who really knows the area.

Photographing our family of 8 was no easy task especially with a one-year-old and two three-year-old girls who never stop moving.  Doug was incredibly patient and made the entire experience feel so easy and relaxed. He captured SO many beautiful, natural photos that truly feel like our family.  My dad was very sick a few months ago which made having these photos of all of us together even more special. They are memories we will cherish for years to come. We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience and will DEFINITELY be using Doug for many summers to come. I can’t recommend him enough!!! - Courtney L.

Everyone who sees my teenage daughter's portraits by Doug are blown away.  We wanted to freeze her at a very important point in her life before entering HS and Adulthood.  The photos capture her beauty and style perfectly.  She said Doug did not make her nervous and it was easy to follow his posing instructions.  He is very professional and easy to communicate with both before and after the shoot.  He knew what sunlight would be perfect and where the crowds would be small.  We look forward to working with Doug again..  I highly recommend him to anyone looking for kids or family portraits as well as sports/surf photography.  -  Kristen S.

Doug was a pro from start to finish. He photographed our father-daughter dance and made every girl and dad feel comfortable with individualized attention. He even scoped the venue the day before for the best spots and lighting, communicated clearly throughout, and delivered beautifully edited photos the very next day. If you want a photographer who's reliable, caring, and delivers stunning results fast, book Doug-you won't regret it. - Michael M.

Doug was great to work with and so patient with our little one! He worked hard to get some great shots of all of us, and was super flexible with changing ideas or places to shoot to best fit our 1.5 year old. We had a great time, and Doug got us our shots back in less than 24 hours! Thank you for a great experience & helping us capture some special memories!  - Sara E.

Doug is amazing to work with! He made our family portrait experience so positive from start to finish. He’s very responsive and knowledgeable. He got us beautiful photos in an incredible turn-around time.  Thank you for capturing these special moments.  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  - Maria S.

Doug was overall incredible to work with and extremely flexible with date and time for our photo shoot! He went above and beyond to offer additional time to my husband while capturing him surfing based on the waves. The photos came out great and responses were top notch prompt. HIGHLY recommend using them! - Daniella K.

    About Doug Phillips

My passion for photography began long ago when copies of National Geographic and Surfer would arrive in the mailbox. I admired the imagery, but I also found myself wondering, Who took that photo, and how did they do it? That curiosity sparked something in me. I was constantly picking up a camera and trying to capture moments — I wanted to be the person behind the lens.  In the early 1990s, I received my first camera as a gift: a Ricoh KR-10M. The years that followed were spent learning the fundamentals of photography — mastering exposure, composition, and the exposure triangle. Back then, I primarily focused on landscapes and wildlife photography.  Before long, life took over, and the camera found itself used less and less. I began my career as a high school Biology teacher and soccer coach, a career from which I retired in 2023.  Almost immediately after retiring, I knew I wanted to return to photography.  I went out, purchased a modern camera body along with quality lenses, and spent the next two years shooting thousands upon thousands of images.  I pushed myself to adapt the skills I had learned on film SLRs to modern digital equipment. I photographed everything from fast-moving hummingbirds and landscapes to sports, portraits, and lifestyle imagery.  Before long, with encouragement from the local camera shop, my wife, local pro photographers, and friends I started Framegrabs and now I actually am "behind the lens" capturing moments as a second career journey.
